A brilliant performance by Good Vibes to land The Marygate Fillies race at York on Friday. She is heading straight to The Queen Mary where she will have a great chance of giving us our first Royal Ascot Winner.
Having been out of form for a while it was great to see Daily Trader back in the winners enclosure at Ffos Las on Thursday. He is a lovely big horse with plenty of ability but has had a few problems and just hasn't been firing on the track. The application of blinkers and a confident ride from Rossa Ryan saw him cruise through to win cosily by a few lengths. Hopefully this will give his confidence a big boost and we should see a few more good runs whilst he is on a respectable mark.
It was a big relief to see The Establishment win at Chepstow on the weekend. We have always thought a lot of this horse and although he has posted some respectable efforts on the track his work at home has always been better. Hopefully his wind op and this win will boost his confidence and there should be plenty of improvement to come from this big powerful horse.
We had two of our best horses out on Saturday and they both ran right up to their best to deliver sparkling performaces.
At Ascot we had Gracious John running in the Shergar Dash where he came 2nd under Fran Berry. It was a good performance under a hefty weight.
At Newmarket Sea Fox went one better to win the class 2 handicap over 7 furlongs under Gabriele Malune. Foxy has been in tremendous form this year and it was great to see him win a decent handicap at a good track.
As has been the theme for us this season we have continued to have a good string of placings the last fortnight but just the one winner. We just keep seem to be hitting the cross bar which is frustrating! But at least they are running well.
The lovely Brexit Time (Gabriele Malune) followed up his win at Hamilton with a good front running 2nd at Newmarket. He continues to improve and is sure to have a good future. At the same meeting Sea Fox (Gabriele Malune) ran his usual consistent race to come 3rd, just unsituited by the steady pace.
A few days later we had a couple more 2nds courtesy of Bahamian Dollar (Eoin Walsh) at Nottingham and Go Annie Go (Gabriele Malune) at Catterick. It was a relief to then finally get a well deserved winner at Lingfield with Sea Fox who, despite ground quicker than ideal, dug deep to win under Adam Kirby.
Monday evening saw us back at our regular Windsor meeting where Bahamian Dollar posted another great performance to come 3rd in the Silks Series race under our own Kathy Begley. Having won on him a few times as an apprentice last year she was pleased to be back in the winners enclosure on him!
Meanwhile Mr Top Hat was on his travels over to Galway racecourse, Ireland in search of some soft ground! He ran right up to his best form to come 2nd under Declan McDonogh despite some hefty interference in the final furlong.
Finally to round up the fortnight we headed off to Ffos Las with seven runners and a stalls test meaning our team were in for a busy night! The stalls test went without a hitch - always a relief! Sir Billy Wright (Eoin Walsh) & Satchville Flyer (Hector Crouch) both ran in the same race and posted very good results coming 2nd & 3rd respectably. Yorbelucky (Eoin Walsh) finished the night off with a respectable 3rd just finding the ground a touch on the quick side - he is crying out for soft ground but that is hard to come by in the UK at the moment!
Let's hope we can turn some of these placings into winners in the next fortnight! Fingers crossed!
