David Evans is a racehorse trainer who trains more than 70 horses in the shadow of the Black Mountains at Ty-Derlwyn Farm, Pandy, near Abergavenny.
"When I came over to the UK in the winter of 1998 I was relatively unknown. David gave me a chance to establish a name for myself. I started riding work for him and then the winners came.” In 2005 Jamie was crowned champion jockey in the UK but it was a year of mixed fortunes, as he also parted company with leading Irish trainer Aidan O’Brien. He recalls: “The first person to pick up the phone and offer me rides was David Evans and I will always be grateful for that. He’s a really good trainer and often manages to find improvement from his horses. But just as important, he doesn’t take long to find out whether a horse has ability." Jamie Spencer, Flat Jockey
